‘It’s not true’ – Amorim denies Liverpool links

Ruben Amorim has denied claims that he has agreed a deal to become Liverpool’s next manager.

The Sporting Lisbon head coach is the frontrunner to be named as Liverpool’s next manager as the Reds search for a replacement for Jurgen Klopp, who will step down from his role at the end of the campaign.

Reports last week suggested that Amorim had agreed terms on a three-year deal to take charge at Anfield, though the 39-year-old has refuted these claims.

Amorim said his focus is on success with Sporting this season and said he has not held talks with any other side.

“I did not meet Liverpool for any interview and there’s no agreement, it’s not true,” Amorim said, as per Fabrizio Romano.

“I’m Sporting manager, I want to win here and I didn’t meet any club. Nothing has been agreed.

“Stop with this story. This is the last time I speak about my future.”

Amorim has become the leading candidate for Liverpool after an excellent period in charge of Sporting. The Portuguese coach led the club to a drought-breaking Primeira Liga title in 2021/22, as the Lisbon outfit won a league and cup double.

Their league triumph was a first for 19 years and Amorim has led Sporting back to the top of the table this season, with the capital club four points ahead of arch-rivals Benfica with a game in hand.
