Ireland vs Israel – Match preview and team news
- Date: Sunday, 4th October.
- Kick-off: 7:45pm BST.
- Venue: TSC Arena, Backa Topola.
Ireland team news
Ireland enters this fixture under intense external pressure, with significant political scrutiny at home regarding the match taking place.
On the pitch, the squad is looking to build on their previous victory over Israel in Hungary. A key talking point surrounds reserve goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu, who previously boycotted the first meeting on moral grounds but has since rejoined the squad, having featured in their subsequent 2-2 draw against Austria.
Managerial options are bolstered by the return of midfielder Finn Azaz to the international setup, adding creative depth to the center of the pitch.
In attack, Jack Moylan carries excellent momentum into the tie after scoring in the reverse fixture. He is expected to be in the offensive line alongside Troy Parrott and Adam Idah, as the Irish side aims to secure another crucial three points in Group B3.
Israel team news
Manager Ran Ben-Shimon is tasked with breaking down a resilient Irish defense that cleanly shut his side out in their previous defeat.
To spark creativity in the final third, Israel will rely heavily on the tactical guidance of captain Manor Solomon and the technical flair of star midfielder Oscar Gloukh.
Additionally, midfielder Eliel Peretz and forward Anan Khalaili are expected to play pivotal roles in transitional play to create high-value scoring opportunities.
Navigating strict security protocols and playing at a neutral venue in Serbia, the squad must find a clinical edge to reverse their current form, salvage their Nations League campaign, and finally get themselves onto the scoresheet.
Form
Ireland
Ireland enters this fixture showing mixed form but holding steady momentum in Group B3. Their Nations League campaign started with a tight 1-0 defeat away to Kosovo. However, they bounced back brilliantly, routing Israel 3-0 in Hungary behind goals from Troy Parrott, Adam Idah, and Jack Moylan. Most recently, they played out an entertaining 2-2 draw against Austria in Dublin, where a clinical brace from Parrott twice put them ahead before they were forced to split points.
Israel
Israel is enduring a difficult run of form, struggling both defensively and creatively in recent outings. They opened their Nations League group stage with a 3-1 loss to Austria and quickly followed that up with a heavy 3-0 defeat against the Republic of Ireland. Ran Ben-Shimon’s side finally stopped their losing streak last Thursday by holding Kosovo to a 0-0 draw. They remain winless in the tournament and are yet to score a single goal from open play in Group B3.
