Inter Milan are considering a move to sign Arsenal forward Folarin Balogun after the club’s move to re-sign Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea collapsed.
Inter have decided to leave negotiations with Chelsea over a deal to re-sign Lukaku after failing to agree a fee for the Belgian, who spent last season on loan at the San Siro.
Simeone Inzaghi’s side are now considering alternatives and have compiled a shortlist of options that includes Arsenal’s Balogun.
The 22-year-old spent last season on loan at Reims and impressed to score 21 league goals for the Ligue 1 side, but is expected to move on as he looks to retain a first-choice role.
The USA international has also been linked with Chelsea and Crystal Palace and is viewed as a different profile of forward for Inter, who are considering a more mobile option to replace Lukaku and the departed Edin Dzeko.
La Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting that Balogun – who is valued at around €40m (£34.3m) at Arsenal – is one of several names on a shortlist that is headed by Alvaro Morata.
The Spaniard has returned to Atletico Madrid after a loan spell at Juventus and the forward’s familiarity with Serie A and comparatively low release clause make him a leading transfer target. Porto’s Mehdi Taremi and Sevilla’s Youssef En-Nesyri are also under consideration.
