Inter Milan captain Mauro Icardi has been tipped to become the “new Cristiano Ronaldo” should he link up with Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea.
That’s according to Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis, who admits trying to secure the signing of the 25-year-old Argentinian during Sarri’s time in charge at the club.
Tribal Football reports that De Laurentiis told reporters: “I offered £55-60m, I do not remember,
“I met his wife, very nice. We spent an afternoon together, we negotiated a potential contract.
“Icardi is a champion, he could become a new Ronaldo, in the hands of Sarri he could make 40 goals.”
Icardi, 25, began his career in the youth system at Barcelona before moving to Sampdoria and then onto Inter where has scored 113 goals in 185 appearances for the club.
