Hull City host Ipswich Town at the MKM Stadium on Saturday afternoon, looking to end a six-match winless run in the Premier League.
Sergej Jakirovic’s side have not won in the league since a 1-0 victory over Coventry City on 29 August, and they enter the weekend as the joint-lowest scorers in the top half of the table with nine goals. Hull sit 10th in the Premier League with 10 points, level with Saturday’s opponents. Hull remain unbeaten across four matches at the MKM Stadium this season, however, and will hope that record can carry them past a Tractor Boys side they have not beaten in any competition since November 2020. Hull have failed to score from open play in their last two matches, requiring a penalty to open the scoring against Brentford last time out.
Hull City team news
Eliot Matazo, Matt Targett, Ilyas Ansah, Darko Gyabi and Charlie Hughes are all unavailable through injury. Lucas Gourna-Douath, Nobel Mendy and Jack Butland are doubts and will be assessed before kick-off. Should Butland be unavailable, Tzolakis is set to continue in goal, as reflected in the predicted lineup below.
Mohamed Belloumi remains Hull’s leading attacking threat with three goals and two assists, though the Algerian has been unable to make the difference in back-to-back matches against Fulham and Brentford. Oli McBurnie opened his account for the season from the penalty spot last time out, and the forward, who scored 17 Championship goals last season and has previously recorded two six-goal Premier League campaigns, will hope to add to that tally. McBurnie’s penalty against Brentford was his first goal of the Premier League campaign.
Hull City predicted lineup
Hull City possible starting XI (5-4-1): Tzolakis; Coyle, Ajayi, Egan, Herrington, Giles; Belloumi, Iroegbunam, Slater, Stroud; McBurnie
