Hull City host Brentford at the MKM Stadium on Sunday afternoon, looking to arrest a dip in form that has brought just one point from their last three league games.
Sergej Jakirovic’s side are ninth in the Premier League with nine points from seven matches, one point behind Sunday’s visitors. Hull remain unbeaten at home this season, but head into the weekend off the back of a 1-0 defeat to Fulham.
Hull City team news
Jack Butland, Matt Targett, Charlie Hughes, Darko Gyabi, Nobel Mendy, Eliot Matazo and Ilyas Ansah are all unavailable through injury, leaving Hull with a lengthy casualty list. Mendy is set to return to training on Monday, with the club aiming for him to be back involved for the visit of Ipswich Town on 31 October. Jakirovic admitted in his pre-match press conference that he is likely to make changes after the Fulham defeat.
Tim Iroegbunam is in contention to make his first Hull start, having yet to feature from the beginning of a Premier League match this season. Mohamed Belloumi, who leads the squad for goal involvements with three goals and two assists, is expected to continue in an advanced role, while Oli McBurnie is set to lead the line as the focal point of Hull’s five-man defensive setup. Regan Slater and Sorba Thomas are also expected to retain their places in midfield. Hull have scored three goals from high turnovers this season, a method Jakirovic will again look to exploit against a Brentford midfield light on its usual protection following the suspensions of Yarmolyuk and Janelt.
