Huge blow to Everton as transfer deal collapses

Everton have been dealt a major transfer blow after it has been claimed that one of the clubs primary transfer deals has collapsed, leaving Ronald Koeman to assess his options.

Gianluca Di Marzio claims that Everton have had “issues with the player” which has seen Serie A club Napoli take the lead in the race for his signature after the club upped their offer.

Di Marzio said:

Napoli continues to be focussed on finding the right midfielder for Sarri’s squad. The Partenopei (a nickname for Napoli) have raised their bid for Axel Witsel after Everton had issues with the player, the Belgian midfielder is also tempted by the possibility of joining Chelsea.

He later reported that a deal for the Belgian had completely collapsed.

The Belgian has just one-year remaining on his contract at Zenit St Petersburg, and is believed to have informed the Russian club that he wishes to leave.
