Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt a huge blow as one of their top transfer targets has signed a new deal at his current club.
The player to have dealt this bitter blow to Tottenham is indeed Crystal Palace winger Wilfred Zaha, after the Ivory Coast winger signed a new five-year deal with the Eagles.
Tottenham were believed to be keen on adding more width and pace to their squad, but are thought to have been slightly put off by Zaha’s decision to play for the Ivory Coast rather than England.
Speaking in a statement to the Crystal Palace website, Zaha said:
“Palace is in my heart and I don’t think the story is over.
“I spoke with Steve and I think I still have more to give this Club. The supporters have been amazing and I want us to do more than just stay in the League next year.
“I would like to thank the Chairman for being a big part of my journey and his fellow owners for backing me and rewarding my progression. Let’s do this!”
In his 258 appearances for Crystal Palace, Zaha has bagged 34 goals for the club. He briefly left Selhurst Park back in 2013 as he became Sir Alex Ferguson’s final signing at Manchester United. The winger was eventually loaned out by David Moyes before being subsequently sold off by Louis van Gaal, back to his original Selhurst Park home.
