‘Honour and privilege’ – Mahrez bids farewell to Man City after completing Saudi move

Riyad Mahrez has become the latest big-name player to make the move to Saudi Arabia.

The Manchester City winger has completed a £30 million move to Al-Ahli, where he will join the likes of Edouard Mendy and Roberto Firmino who have also joined the Jeddah-based outfit from the Premier League this summer.

Mahrez leaves City having scored 78 goals and providing 59 assists in 236 appearances, winning four Premier League titles, two FA Cups, three Carabao Cups, and of course, the Champions League after the Blues claimed a historic treble last season.

He did, of course, also win the Premier League during his time with Leicester City.

Speaking after completing his move to the Saudi Pro League, the Algerian said it has been an ‘honour and a privilege’ to represent the Citizens.

“To play for Manchester City has been an honour and privilege,” Mahrez told the Manchester City club website.

“I came to City to win trophies and enjoy my football and I achieved all that and so much more.

“I have had five unforgettable years with this football club, working with unbelievable players, fantastic supporters, and the best manager in the world.

“I’ve made a lifetime of wonderful memories and the manner of our Premier League title wins and the battles we’ve had with Liverpool and, last year, Arsenal, underlined our collective desire and mentality to be the best.

“Manchester City will forever be a huge and happy part of my life.”
