Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise

Hodgson opens up on Olise future amid Man United links

Roy Hodgson has said it would be a ‘sad day’ for Crystal Palace if Michael Olise were to leave the club, amid reported transfer interest from Manchester United.

Olise is a reported transfer target for Erik ten Hag’s team as Manchester United prepare for new investment under INEOS.

The Frenchman, who turned down a summer move to Chelsea in favour of signing a new contract with Palace, has scored five goals in seven Premier League starts this season.

Olise’s new contract is rumoured to have a release clause in excess of the £35m Chelsea bid for his services, which will become active in the summer.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Palace’s clash with Sheffield United in the Premier League, Hodgson said he hoped Olise would honour his long-term deal.

“My thoughts [it] would be a sad day for the club, I am certain the club would like him to honour [his long term deal] and to improve the team around players like him… To make the team stronger and not lose them to other Premier League clubs who have money on the table.

“But at the moment that isn’t our concern, it’s these [upcoming] games.”
