Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson is hoping that Michy Batshuayi is the missing piece in The Eagles’ jigsaw puzzle after his deadline day signing from Chelsea.
The Belgian international striker had struggled to make an impact in La Liga since moving to Valencia on loan during the summer.
On deadline day, Palace agreed a deal with his parent club Chelsea to sign the 25-year-old until the end of the season, and Hodgson is hopeful the 25-year-old can solve his sides long-standing issues in front of goal.
“He’s been a name on our lips for a while, but fairly late on [on deadline day], we realised he was a possibility, and it was only right that we were given the chance,” Hodgson told a press conference today.
“He’s a player we’ve long admired and he is a missing piece in our jigsaw puzzle.”
Batshuayi could come straight into Palace’s starting XI for their fixture with Fulham this weekend. Wilfried Zaha is suspended for the game while Christian Benteke is still working his way back to full match fitness.
