Ander Herrera has said he is confident that David de Gea will snub any advances by Real Madrid due to one simple reason, Manchester United’s fans.
The Manchester United number 1 has been linked with a move to Real Madrid in almost every transfer window for the last four seasons, in what has been one of the longest running transfer sagas in recent years.
Despite the speculation, De Gea has remained at Old Trafford, always insisting that he is happy at the club. He was however just minutes away from making the move back to the Spanish capital in 2015, only for the deal to break down due to that infamous fax machine.
United boss Louis van Gaal had left De Gea out of the start of the 2015/16 season due to the speculation surrounding his goalkeeper, before reluctantly accepting a £29 million deadline day bid for the Spaniard that would have seen Keylor Navas move in the opposite direction.
However, with the move breaking down at the eleventh hour, De Gea ultimately stayed at the club and happily signed a new deal, with Ander Herrera revealing his Spanish teammate was amazed by the support he received from the Old Trafford Faithful.
“I remember that difficult summer when everyone was talking about Real Madrid and he played the first game at Old Trafford and everyone was singing his name and he told me ‘this is amazing, they are the best’,” Herrera is quoted in Spanish publication AS.
“He can be very calm but he’s the best. He will show it again. He’s the best keeper I’ve ever seen in my life and he is with us so we have more chances to win titles.”
