Harry Kane reveals ‘burning fire’ to amend bitter Spurs memory

Harry Kane says he has a “burning fire” within him to win the Champions League with Bayern Munich after losing the 2019 final with Tottenham Hotspur.

The England striker was coming off the back of an injury when he started that year’s decider against Liverpool, who won 2-0 in Madrid to lift the trophy for the sixth time.

The 30-year-old admits Bayern have endured a disappointing season, having relinquished the Bundesliga title to Bayer Leverkusen, but the German outfit can still win Europe’s top prize.

Bayern host Arsenal at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night for the second leg of their quarter-final tie, having drawn the first leg 2-2 at the Emirates Stadium.

“When you reach a final and don’t quite get over the line there is always a burning fire to get back there and go one step further,” Harry Kane said in his pre-match press conference on Tuesday.

“We have an opportunity that starts with a big game tomorrow and then, if we get through, it’s just a couple of games to Wembley.

“It’s in the distance at the moment and I can just try to put in my best performance and step by step we can reach our goals.”

Although many Spurs fans will be hoping Kane shoots Bayern to victory over their north London rivals, it could have an adverse effect on his former club.

Defeat for Arsenal would be a major blow to the Premier League‘s hopes of getting an extra spot in next year’s competition – an in particular Tottenham, who currently occupy fifth place in the table.

“I don’t know how to answer that,” Kane responded when asked about that possibility. “The Bundesliga has been a great experience for me so far.

“You’ve got some top teams in this league. I can’t focus on what may or may not happen in the Premier League, I just have to focus on Bayern and trying to finish as high in the league as possible and that’s second place.

“I’m really enjoying it here in the Bundesliga.”
