Haiti vs Scotland – Match preview and team news

  • Date: Sunday, 14th June.
  • Kick-off: 2am BST.
  • Venue: Boston Stadium, Foxborough, Massachusetts.

Haiti team news

Haiti enters their historic opening World Cup clash with a perfectly clean bill of health.

Manager Sébastien Migné has a fully fit 26-man squad to choose from, giving him total tactical flexibility. The team is expected to set up in a balanced 4-4-2 formation to counter Scotland’s midfield strength.

All-time top goalscorer Duckens Nazon is fit and highly likely to lead the frontline alongside Sunderland striker Wilson Isidor, though Frantzdy Pierrot is also pushing hard for a starting spot.

In the middle of the pitch, central midfielder Jean-Ricner Bellegarde is completely healthy and will serve as the primary creative spark.

With no injury concerns or suspensions hanging over the camp, the Grenadiers are at absolute maximum strength.

Scotland team news

Scotland manager Steve Clarke received a massive boost ahead of their opening World Cup match as star midfielder Scott McTominay has fully recovered from a stomach bug.

McTominay missed training earlier in the week but is officially fit and ready to start. However, the squad faces a major blow as midfielder Billy Gilmour is completely out of the tournament after sustaining a serious knee injury during a warm-up game against Curaçao.

Manchester United youngster Tyler Fletcher has been called up to take his place in the squad.

Additionally, defenders Scott McKenna and Nathan Patterson are being closely monitored due to minor knocks, though both remain available options for selection.

Fortunately, striker Che Adams is in peak physical condition and is expected to spearhead the Scottish attack along with Lawrence Shankland.

Form

Haiti

Haiti’s recent warm-up results have been mixed but highly encouraging ahead of their second-ever World Cup appearance. Following a close 1-0 defeat to Tunisia and a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Iceland earlier this spring, they found their rhythm by crushing New Zealand 4-0. Although they suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to Peru in their final match, their cohesive defensive setup makes them a tough team to break down.

Scotland

Scotland enters the tournament finding their stride at the perfect time. They bounced back from narrow 1-0 spring friendly losses against Japan and Ivory Coast by securing dominant, high-scoring victories in their final warm-up matches. Steve Clarke’s side comfortably defeated Curaçao 4-1 before outclassing Bolivia 4-0, showcasing a sharp and highly efficient attack. With eight goals scored in their last two outings, the Scots hold strong momentum.

Predicted lineups

Haiti: Placide; Arcus, Ade, Delcroix, Experience; Deedson, Jean Jacques, Bellegarde, Providence; Isidor, Nazon

Scotland: Gunn; Hickey, Hanley, Souttar, Robertson; Doak, McTominay, Ferguson, McGinn; Adams, Shankland
