Guardiola: Nunes ‘one of the best right-backs in the world’

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola believes Matheus Nunes is developing into ‘one of the best right-backs in the world’.

Nunes has deputised as a makeshift right-back for Manchester City for much of the campaign, with the Portugal international tasked with filling a problem position.

The 27-year-old has had an excellent season in the position, scoring once and providing five assists in 30 Premier League appearances. Only eight players in the Premier League have created more goals this season.

Nunes has made notable strides forward in the unfamiliar defensive role, and Guardiola believes has has all the attributes to become one of the very best right-backs in the world.

He praised the improvements in Nunes’s defensive awareness throughout the course of the campaign.

“Matheus Nunes is becoming one of the best right-backs in the world,” the Spaniard said.

“Defensively, attention to the line, arriving to the by-line – many, many good things!”
