Pep Guardiola has paid tribute to several of Man City’s senior players who have been with the club for many years, claiming they are addicted to winning.
Players like Sergio Aguero, David Silva and club captain Vincent Kompany have been with Man City for the vast majority of time since Sheikh Mansour bought the club in 2008.
City reduced the gap at the top of the Premier League to four points after beating Liverpool 2-1 at the Etihad last Thursday night and with Guardiola’s side still in with a chance of winning four trophies as we enter the new year the Spanish coach has paid tribute to the winning mentality his senior players bring to his squad.
‘You have to live the game like it is the last game in our lives,’ Guardiola told the press ahead of his sides FA Cup clash with Rotherham today.
‘If you don’t, you cannot compete in these kinds of games.
‘I have a lot of respect for the players who every single year, for 10, 11 years, are playing at that level. It is what I respect the most. Everyone can make an exceptional season, good moments, but players like Vincent Kompany, like David, like Sergio, like Otamendi, every single year they are there competing with the desire to get more and more and more.
‘Winning is so addictive that when you taste it you say: “Wow, I want more of that.” Today, we spoke about that. This game was a final for us. Lose and we would be almost out. You have to play in that way in the big games. Sometimes, playing every three days in December, it is almost impossible to keep that rhythm.’
