Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has remained philosophical while discussing Jorginho’s decision to snub a move to the Premier League Champions in favour of joining Chelsea.
The Brazilian born Italy International had looked all set to move to Etihad earlier this simmer, before performing a last minute U-turn and choosing to link up with his former boss at Napoli Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge.
Guardiola revealed that ultimately it is better the £57 million midfielder moved to London if he was not fully committed to joining Manchester City, although he also admitted that Chelsea have got themselves a top player.
“So… yes, we were close. But in the end Jorginho decided [to join Chelsea],” Guardiola told the press.
“We thought [a deal for Jorginho] was done, but at the last turn he decided to go to Chelsea. Similar to Alexis, he decided to go to United.
“I want a player who likes to come to Manchester City and he doesn’t like to come, so maybe he was a little bit late to announce that.
“But, when he decided not to come, then don’t come, good luck at Chelsea and I think English football is going to discover an exceptional holding midfielder.”
City and Chelsea will face off this Sunday in the Community Shield at Wembley.
