Manchester City have been handed a double injury blow with news that Kevin de Bruyne and Gabriel Jesus are both set for a spell on the sidelines.

The duo both picked up injuries during Man City’s shock draw against Crystal Palace on New Years Eve. Brazilian striker Jesus landed awkwardly and left the field in tears, while de Bruyne was on the receiving end of a very bad tackle from Jason Puncheon.

Speaking after the game, Pep Guardiola confirmed the extent of both players’ injuries.

The former Barcelona boss said:

“I think Gabriel will be out for a little more than a month, and Kevin we will see on Monday if it is just a kick or something else.

“You have to admire the physicality of the Premier League, but the referees need to protect the players, that is all I ask.”

Speculation has suggested that the influential Belgian could be out for six to eight weeks.
