Pep Guardiola says he wants Manchester City to hold on to their 19-year-old Spanish forward, Brahim Diaz.
Diaz scored two goals to knock Fulham out of the Carabao Cup on Thursday night and Guardiola feels the young Spaniard has a future at the Etihad.
“We want Diaz to stay,” the Catalan coach stated at the pre-match press conference.
“We share out ideas and sometimes we agree and sometimes we do not. We want him, just like Phil Foden.
“In the case of Jadon Sancho, we wanted him but he didn’t want to stay so we wished him well.”
Jadon Sancho, who is just 18 years of age, is in fantastic form at the moment for Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga. The English winger left City for the German club in August 2017.
Guardiola does not want to lose any more young talents during his time as Manchester City coach, however.
“The young players, we want them to stay for longer and at 17, 18 19 they are not a ready footballer so we want them at the end.”
Guardiola’s City team face a struggling Southampton side on Sunday in the Premier League.
