Guardiola beams at ‘brilliant’ Man City and ‘amazing’ Gundogan after vital 3-0 win over Everton

Manchester City moved a step closer to regaining their Premier League crown after they beat Everton 3-0 today at Goodison Park.

Sean Dyche’s Toffees side started well and had restricted City to minimal chances until IIkay Gundogan opened the scoring in the 37th minute with a world-class strike. Riyad Mahrez floated a ball into the area and the German midfielder took a touch before steering a sensational improvised finish into the bottom corner.

Two minutes later and all Everton’s good work went completely out the window when Gundogan turned provider to put a left-footed cross onto the head of Erling Haaland, who duly nodded home his 36th Premier League goal of the season.

After being the player mainly responsible for taking the game away from Everton, Man City skipper Gundogan then made sure of the win by curling home a sublime free-kick from just outside the area.

Today’s win sees Pep Guardiola’s side move four points clear of Arsenal with three games left to play and speaking afterwards

“Between the Champions League semis it’s difficult here after won Everton scored five against Brighton,” Guardiola told BBC Sport.

”From minute one we took the game in our hands. It was a brilliant performance at the end of a season. We need two more victories to be champions. Step by step recovery.

“They defended deep. Their transitions are amazing. They are the best team by far in transitions in the league. We controlled the game. We were patient and attacked the spaces.

“Gundogan arriving in the box is amazing. Really really important.

“Every time we win you bring energy for the next game. We are recovering well.
