Pep Guardiola aims sly dig at Arsenal over playing style

Pep Guardiola says he could never send his Man City team out to play the way Arsenal did on Sunday.ย

The two teams played out a dramatic 2-2 draw at Eastlands which saw Leandro Trossard sent off and Rodri leave the pitch with a potentially season-ending injury.

The ten-man Gunners nearly came away with a win after a backs-to-the-wall defensive performance that kept the Premier League champions at bay until the 98th minute when John Stones scored an equaliser.

Guardiola said he texted Arsenal manager and former Man City colleague Mikel Arteta afterwards to praise his side’s performance, but told the media that he could not do something similar with his team.

Pep Guardiola aims sly dig at Arsenal over playing style

“After winning four titles, do you think people roll out the red carpet for us and put on their best dresses?

“We play a lot of teams who play defensively. Arsenal were 10 v 11. It was not the first time. Know how many times teams play like today? Millions.

“It’s about us. I said to Mikel they did amazing. I admire what they have done.

“I cannot do that with my team. We just have to do what we do better.”

Man City sit top of the Premier League standings with 13 points after five games, while Arsenal lie in fourth with 11 points.
