Gracia: Watford should have won ‘better’ against Cardiff

Watford recorded their first win since October by beating newly promoted Cardiff City 3-2 at Vicarage Road earlier today

The Hornets seemed to be cruising to victory after three excellent finishes by Gerard Deulofeu, Domingos Quina and Jose Holebas saw the home side 3-0 up with just over 20 minutes to go.

However, Cardiff struck back with two late goals from Bobby Reid and Junior Hoilett to set up a tense finish for the home side.

Speaking after the game Watford boss Javi Gracia was happy to finally get back to winning ways, but was clearly concerned that his side had made things so difficult for themselves at the end of the game.

“The end of the game was different than the most part of it. We dominated the first 70 minutes, we created a lot of chances and we could have got a better victory today,” Gracia told BBC Sport.

“Their goalkeeper was amazing. The last part of the game I think was a good lesson for us to know how we have to manage the game.

“The last games we have played well, but today we deserved the win, it is important for the players and supporters. All of them deserve the victory.

“We looked for a good result many games ago and now we enjoy three points.”
