Chelsea striker Giroud opens up about his ‘love’ for the FA Cup

Olivier Giroud expressed his love for the FA Cup, a competition he has won four times, after Chelsea defeated Sheffield Wednesday in the fourth round.

The Blues progressed to the fifth round thanks to goals from Willian and Callum Hudson-Odoi in a 3-0 win over the Championship side, the last of which was assisted by the Frenchman.

Giroud explained why he holds the FA Cup in such esteem and what makes knockout football so enjoyable for him:

“The FA Cup is always special for English teams,” Giroud told chelseafc.com.

“Cup games are different. You don’t have to think too much about the next game because it’s not a championship. If you lose, you’re out so that is the beauty of this competition. I have won four times, and I would love to win it again.”

Giroud must be in heaven at the moment, with Chelsea still competing in three cup competitions and the chance for silverware on multiple fronts.

“We want to win something as soon as possible. We have the League Cup, the FA Cup will be a target, and the Europa League as well will be a big target for us.”
