Ryan Giggs has leapt to the defence of Jose Mourinho, saying that Manchester United should not sack the beleaguered boss.
Manchester United are a club embroiled in seemingly never-ending turmoil at present, and whether it be their results on the field or Mourinho’s relationship with his players off of it, the Red Devils are never far from the headlines.
There has been plenty of fans, pundits and former players, including former United star Paul Scholes, who have called for the United board to end Mourinho’s two-and-a-bit year stay at the club, but one man who doesn’t is club legend, and current Wales manager, Ryan Giggs.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of the upcoming international break, the Wales boss was asked if Mourinho should lose his job, to which Giggs replied: “No. They’re going through a tough time at the moment.
“I said that last time, where do they go? Change now and you’ll be in the same position in a year or two years quite possibly.
“I believe he should keep his job.”
Former Liverpool midfielder Graeme Souness has however said that United should sack Mourinho, and hand Giggs the reigns. The former United number 11 has already sampled life in the Old Trafford hot-seat for himself, becoming the caretaker manager following the departure of David Moyes before spending two years as Louis van Gaal’s assistant.
