Steven Gerrard has named the two players that got the ‘best’ out of him at Liverpool, with the former club captain believing his best connections were with Michael Owen and Fernando Torres.
Gerrard is regarded as one of the greatest players in Liverpool history following a stellar career with his boyhood side, winning a wealth of major honours and forming impressive partnerships with some of the Premier League‘s leading forwards.
The former England captain believes his best performances came when providing the ammunition from midfield for Michael Owen and Fernando Torres, however, admitting he was on the same ‘wavelength’ as the duo when asked which forward he most enjoyed playing alongside.
“I think it would either be out of Michael Owen and Torres,” Gerrard told Sky Sports.
“I played with Michael when I was quite young. I always knew that Michael was on the same page and the same wavelength. I didn’t have to look twice.
“I had that same connection with Torres when I moved further up.
“My role with Suarez was different because I was deeper. He had Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge so there was less onus on myself to create.
“Owen and Torres got the best out of me as a No. 8 midfielder.”
