Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has all but confirmed that Emre Can will be leaving the club this summer.
Can has been heavily linked with making a move to Italian champions Juventus on a free transfer in the summer, although Liverpool are still thought to be hopeful of convincing the Germany international to sign a new deal.
However, following Liverpool’s emphatic 5-0 win over F.C. Porto in the Champions League on Wednesday night, former Liverpool captain turned pundit has suggested to TV viewers that Can’s time at Anfield is drawing to a close.
When asked about Reds’ midfield in his role as a BT Sport pundit, the club’s former skipper said:
“You have to wait to see what’s going to happen because Emre Can is leaving and (Naby) Keita is coming in as a number eight.”
Gerrard’s comments hold extra weight considering he is still employed by Liverpool in the capacity of under 18 manager
Even Jurgen Klopp recently hinted that there was little that the club could do to prevent his departure:
“Sometimes a player just wants to sit out his contract.
“That’s not cool for the club but there are moments in which you have to accept it.”
