Former Arsenal midfielder Gilberto Silva has predicted that Manchester United’s new £52 million signing Fred will help the Old Trafford club get the best out of their record signing Paul Pogba next season.
Silva, who was part of the legendary Arsenal ’Invincibles’ team now acts as an agent and represents Fred. The former Gunners star believes that Brazil international Fred will compliment Pogba well, allowing the £89 million man more freedom to roam forward.
Pogba came in for some heavy criticism last season for his lack of tactical awareness when playing in a midfield two, with it looking likely that Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho will deploy the France international in a three man midfield next season beside Fred and Nemanja Matic.
“I think the combination with Fred can really help Pogba,” Gilberto told Manchester United’s official website.
“With Fred, Pogba can be more free to go forward and help the guys up front, as he likes to do.
“I’m really looking forward to see the combination with Fred, Pogba and Nemanja Matic, and how Jose is going to use them.
“When Pogba came to United as the world’s most expensive player, there was a lot of pressure on him and expectation generated by that. You have to be able to handle that, but hopefully Fred’s arrival, and the shape they’ll play with him, can help Pogba a lot.
“Matic is a great player, Pogba as well. So for Fred to be playing alongside guys of this quality, he can take his game to another level.”
