Fred: Manchester United must beat Spurs to stay in title race

Manchester United midfielder Fred has said that the Red Devils must beat Tottenham in order to stay in the title race.

By the time Manchester United kick off on Monday night at Old Trafford, they could find themselves six points behind Premier League favourites Man City and Liverpool, who both play on Saturday.

Having put in a lacklustre performance against Brighton last week, a game in which they succumbed to a surprise 3-2 defeat at the AmEx, £52 million summer signing Fred thinks that even at this early stage of the season, that their next game against Spurs could already be a must win game.

“We know Tottenham are a great team but we need to get the win if we are to aspire to win the league it’s a very important game,” Fred told Sky Sports.

“The Premier League is a great league and there are a lot of great teams and Brighton were better than United.

“Going into the next game we want to be focused and we want to win so we can stay in the race for the title.”
