Manchester United target Fred has opened up on his rumoured move to the Premier League, but has suggested that the Red Devils may have to wait until after the World Cup to complete the deal.
Fred’s move to Old Trafford has dominated the headlines in the last 48 hours, with reports from reliable journalists claiming that a fee has been agreed between United and Shakhtar Donetsk for the midfielders services.
Personal terms are not expected to be a problem, and despite currently being in Brazil preparing for the World Cup with the national team, it has been speculated that he could complete a medical as soon as next week when the Samba stars arrive in England for their friendly against Croatia at Anfield.
While usually in times of intense transfer speculation, players refuse to talk about their potential moves. However, speaking at a press conference in Rio de Janeiro, Fred confirmed that there is ‘very strong interest’ from Jose Mourinho’s side, although the deal may not be completed until after this summers tournament in Russia:
“There have been some advanced talks since January, when I almost went to Man City,” said the 25-year-old.
“Soon after City, United talked to Shakhtar and my agents. And today, if I’m not mistaken, there is very strong interest from United.
“My head is in the World Cup. My agents are taking care of it. I try to do my work in the field and leave the extra field for Gilberto Silva. My staff are looking at what is best for me. Who knows after the World Cup I can make the best choice for me.”
