Frank keen to keep Mbeumo at Brentford after latest feat

Thomas Frank has said he ‘loves that’ Bryan Mbeumo is a Brentford player after the winger’s latest milestone.

Mbeumo set up Kevin Schade’s winner at Ipswich Town to reach 25 goals and assists in the Premier League this season. He’s just the third player to reach that mark, after Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (46) and Newcastle striker Alexander Isak (29).

Mbeumo’s performances this season have attracted interest from several Premier League rivals and Frank admitted earlier this month that the 25-year-old could be sold for ‘the right price’. The Cameroon international will have just 12 months to run on his contract in the summer.

For now, Frank said he is enjoying watching Mbeumo in a Brentford shirt.

“Bryan is a Brentford player, I love that he is playing here for Brentford,” Frank said to Sky Sports.

“I don’t know any manager who doesn’t want their best players playing on the pitch.”

Brentford’s win at Ipswich lifted the Bees to eighth, a position that could secure European football. Frank said the prospect of Europe is ‘extremely exciting’ and could persuade Brentford’s best players to remain in West London.

“Of course that is extremely exciting. There is a lot riding on the next few games. Let’s see what happens, depending on other things and it is one game at a time and the next one is Fulham.”
