Former England midfielders hail Chelsea star Willian

Former England midfielders Owen Hargreaves and Glenn Hoddle have praised the qualities of Chelsea winger Willian, saying he is one of the clubs best players.

Willian scored the only goal of the game in Chelsea‘s Europa League opener against PAOK after he was handed the captains armband by Maurizio Sarri who took charge of the Blues for the first time in Europe.

While the Greek side offered very little against the unbeaten Premier League side, the performance of Willian was what really stood out for former Manchester United and Bayern Munich midfielder, Owen Hargreaves.

“He’s a beautiful football player, he really is,” Hargreaves told BT Sport.

“He’s not really a winger and he’s not really a No 10.

“He’s such a smart player, technically so good, touch, everything about him. He’s a great finisher, great passer. It’s amazing he doesn’t actually play more.

“Every time you watch him play, he looks like he’s one of Chelsea’s best players.”

Meanwhile, former Spurs midfielder Glenn Hoddle was keen to praise the Brazilian’s technique:

“His finishing is actually guiding it into corners, he doesn’t try to hit it too hard,” Hoddle said.

“It’s all technique and he sets the ball up beautifully. He’s got pace, he works hard for the team.

“He’s always having to prove to the manager to stay in the side, it’s a strange one.”
