Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has heaped praise on midfielder Paul Pogba after his performances at the World Cup.
France won their second World Cup on Sunday, beating Croatia 4-2 in Moscow, with Kylian Mbappe stealing the headlines after another fine performance.
The 19-year-old was named the best young player at this summer’s tournament in Russia, with Rio Ferdinand urging Manchester United to sign him Mbappe, however he also had some very positive words about current United midfielder Paul Pogba.
Pogba has been on the receiving end of plenty of criticism over the course of the last season, with some even speculating he could be sold by Jose Mourinho. However, over the course of the World Cup, he has been a star performer for the French, and Ferdinand has urged Mourinho to ensure he gets the best out of the £89m man:
“He was immense – the pressure was on and he came to the fore,” he said told the BBC
“He has had a tough season with people calling him out at Manchester United.
“It is now down to Jose to unlock this Pogba we saw at the World Cup. He was responsible, he stood up to hard tests and was a talisman of the team.”
