Lyon chief discusses Liverpool and Manchester United target Fekir’s future

France playmaker Nebil Fekir has been dominating transfer headlines since the end of last season.

The Lyon captain was expected to complete a big money move to Liverpool before the World Cup, but the deal reportedly broke down over issues with the 24-year-old’s medical.

Since then, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has also been credited with having an interest in a player who scored 18 goals and provided eight assists in just 30 Ligue 1 appearances last season.

Lyon’s outspoken President Jean-Michel Aulas has now admitted that his star player may still move on this summer, although if he doesn’t, the French side will look forward to him captaining them in next seasons Champions League.

“His transfer failed in June, but he hasn’t been affected by it. He is focused on the World Cup, and he still has his heart in Lyon. Nabil is much closer to Lyon today than he was when we talked to Liverpool.

“Maybe he’ll go to Liverpool, or to another club, but if he stays at OL, it will be a great year for him and for us.”
