The FPL players with the most attacking returns in 2023-24

The Fantasy Premier League launch is here for the new season with the game creators having drip-fed fans price reveals for the upcoming campaign.

FPL players can now assembled their squad for the opening weekend of the Premier League campaign, with just a month to go until kick-off on August 17.

Ahead of the new season, we will hand out advice for the 2024-25 campaign, including the best team names, tips, and selections you should consider.

Here, we detail the most prolific points scorers of last season in terms of number of attacking returns.

Remember, Fantasy assists are awarded to the player from the goal-scoring team who last touches the ball before their teammate who scores the goal.

The final touch can be an intentional pass, an inadvertent touch, or the result of an effort on goal. Players fouled for penalties that are scored also receive assist points.

The FPL players with the most attacking returns in 2023-24:

10. Kai Havertz and Jean-Phillipe Mateta – 23 (13G, 10A and 16G, 7A)

A pair of players who overcame initial doubts to thrive kickstart this list.

Kai Havertz faced criticism during his opening games in an Arsenal shirt but a move to centre-forward transformed his campaign last term. His switch to a striking role has been reflected in FPL with re-classification this season, which may reduce his appeal.

Jean-Phillippe Mateta, meanwhile, had scored just seven league goals over the previous two seasons combined before firing 16 for Crystal Palace in 2023-24. His form earned the forward a call-up to the France squad for this summer’s Olympics, meaning he will likely miss the start of the new season.

9. Alexander Isak – 25 (21G, 4A)

Alexander Isak became the first Newcastle player since Alan Shearer in 2003-04 to score 20+ goals in a Premier League season last term. The Swedish striker finished third in the race for the Premier League’s Golden Boot, despite missing periods of the season through injury. Isak averaged a goal every 108 minutes in the Premier League in 2023-24.

8. Son Heung-min – 27 (17G, 10A)

A firm FPL favourite, Son Heung-min enhanced his reputation as one of the safest bets in the game last season. The South Korean scored 17 goals and provided 10 assists in FPL, and was one of eight players to record at least eight hauls of 10+ points in 2023-24.

He is priced at ยฃ10m for the new season, a ยฃ1m price hike from last term.

7. Anthony Gordon – 27 (11G, 16A)

Anthony Gordon’s excellent season saw him named Newcastle United Player of the Season for 2023-24. Gordon recorded 10+ goals and 10+ assists for the Magpies, form that earned him a place in the England squad for Euro 2024.

6. Phil Foden – 27 (19G, 8A)

Phil Foden produced the best goalscoring season of his career in 2023-24 to score 19 league goals for Manchester City. Foden’s form saw him recognised with the Premier League Player of the Season and FWA Footballer of the Year awards.

5. Bukayo Saka – 28 (16G, 12A)

Bukayo Saka edges out his England teammates to make the top five players for goal returns in 2023-24.

The Arsenal winger scored 16 times and provided 12 FPL assists, while his share of spot-kick duties adds to his appeal.

4. Mohamed Salah – 30 (18G, 12A)

Mohamed Salah set a new FPL record last season after becoming the first player to record 200+ point seasons in seven consecutive campaigns.

The Egyptian King has been FPL royalty since his arrival at Liverpool and recorded 30 goals and assists in 2023-24. He is the most expensive midfielder in the game heading into the new season, at ยฃ12.5m.

3. Erling Haaland – 35 (27G, 8A)

Erling Haaland cruised to a second successive Premier League Golden Boot last season, scoring 27 goals in the Premier League. It was another phenomenal return from the Norwegian after his record-breaking exploits in 2022-23 and has led to the highest price tag in FPL history.

Haaland will now set managers back a mammoth ยฃ15m, eclipsing the previous record of ยฃ14m held by Thierry Henry, Robin van Persie and Cristiano Ronaldo.

2. Cole Palmer – 35 (22G, 13A)

Cole Palmer was FPL gold last season after beginning the season at just ยฃ5m. A stunning season at Chelsea saw Palmer record 244 points, the highest total of the FPL campaign.

Such was his impact, that Palmer has been priced at ยฃ10.5m for the upcoming campaign, a record-breaking rise for an FPL asset from one season to the next.

1. Ollie Watkins – 37 (19G, 18A)

Ollie Watkins recorded more FPL goals and assists than any other player in the Premier League last season.

Watkins scored 19 goals and racked up a further 18 assists to fire Aston Villa to a top-four finish and Champions League qualification. Despite a price rise to ยฃ9m, he still looks great value.
