Fantasy Premier League: Four of the best captains for GW17:
Mohamed Salah vs Manchester United (H)
Liverpool take on Manchester United in the headline fixture of the Premier League weekend, as the North-West giants renew rivalries at Anfield. Last season’s clash was an unforgettable one for Liverpool, who thrashed the Red Devils 7-0 to inflict the joint-heaviest ever competitive defeat on their arch rivals.
Mohamed Salah scored twice in that game and will be the overwhelming captaincy favourite this weekend, against a Manchester United team entering the game off the back of a 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth.

Salah is the highest-scoring player in FPL this season (127 points) and returned his sixth double-digit haul of the campaign against Crystal Palace in GW16. He leads the league for goal involvements (18) and assists (7) in 2023/24 and will be hoping to maintain an impressive recent record against this week’s opponents. After failing to score in his first four appearances against Manchester United, Salah has scored 12 goals in his last eight games against the Red Devils.
Son Heung-min vs Nottingham Forest (A)
Son Heung-min returned a big haul for his owners last time out, collecting two assists and a goal on route to 17 points against Newcastle in GW16. The South Korean had been an injury doubt ahead of the game, but was instead at the centre of an impressive Spurs performance.
Son returned to a left-wing role for the clash with Richarlison starting at centre-forward, though it had no impact on his ability to influence the game. The 30-year-old had two shots on target, registered four key passes and created two big chances against Newcastle, with the front-footed approach from Ange Postecoglou’s side making Spurs’ attacking assets appealing.
Spurs travel to face Nottingham Forest on Friday evening, who despite a strong record at the City Ground are out of sorts. Steve Cooper is under pressure, after five Premier League games without a win.
Dominic Solanke vs Luton (H)
Bournemouth are the form team in the Premier League right now, top of the form table across the last five games. The Cherries made a statement with a 3-0 win at Manchester United last weekend, a performance which demonstrated their improvement under Andoni Iraola.
Key to their upturn has been Dominic Solanke, who scored at Old Trafford to move to eight Premier League goals for the campaign. The 26-year-old’s improvement around goal, coupled with his work-ethic and ability to link with the midfield, will have caught the attention of teams higher up the table.
Dominic Solanke has scored 8 goals in the Premier League this season. Erling Haaland is the only ST with more (14).

Though not an explosive FPL asset (he has just one double-digit return this season), Solanke has been among the most consistent. The forward has an attacking return in eight of his 16 appearances this season.
Bournemouth host Luton this weekend, who despite recent improvement remain poor on the road. Only Sheffield United have taken less points in away games this season.
Julian Alvarez vs Crystal Palace (H)
Could Julian Alvarez be the perfect captain choice this weekend?
The Argentine’s returns have slowed since a strong start to the campaign, failing to score in seven games, but Alvarez will be expected to start at centre-forward for Manchester City against Crystal Palace this weekend, in the absence of Erling Haaland.
The 23-year-old has three assists over those seven goalless games, but will be keen to end his goal drought against a Palace team on a five-game winless run. Haaland’s absence could also see Alvarez handed penalty duty.
