Fantasy Premier League: Four of the best captains for Gameweek 24

Fantasy Premier League managers will be assessing their squads ahead of a crucial period in the season, with upcoming blank gameweeks and doubles to navigate in the upcoming schedule.

Choosing the right captain can often make the difference to a successful gameweek and we’re on hand to offer our advice on the best options for Gameweek 24.

Fantasy Premier League: Four of the best captains for Gameweek 24:

Erling Haaland vs Everton (H)

Erling Haaland made his return to the Manchester City XI for Monday’s win at Brentford, registering an assist in the 3-1 win in West London.

The Fantasy Premier League points machine is still finding his rhythm after a two-month absence, but will be relishing the return to home comforts this weekend. Pep Guardiola’s team take on Everton looking to secure a 10th consecutive win in all competitions, with the Citizens beginning to find real momentum.

Everton have been impressive as a defensive unit of late, boasting the fourth-best defensive record in the Premier League, but face a wretched record in this fixture. The Toffees have not beaten City since 2017 and have lost 12 of the last 13 meetings. Haaland, meanwhile, has six goals in eight Premier League games at the Etihad this season.

Phil Foden vs Everton (H)

If Haaland’s rust invokes reluctance in FPL managers this weekend, why not opt for teammate Phil Foden?

Foden has been in sensational form in recent weeks with four goals and four assists in his last six Premier League games. That return included a hat-trick, his second for Manchester City, in Monday’s 3-1 win at Brentford as the England midfielder stole the show.

Pep Guardiola believes Foden is producing arguably the best performances of his senior career right now. Since scoring in the win at Everton on December 27, only Julian Alvarez has posted a higher Expected Goals (xG) among City assets.

City follow the clash with Everton with a double against Brentford (H) and Chelsea (H) before, crucially, having a fixture (Bournemouth) in blank gameweek 26. Now looks to be the time to load up on the club’s best options.

Diogo Jota vs Burnley (H)

Liverpool have a favourable fixture this weekend as the Reds look to respond to last weekend’s setback at Arsenal.

Burnley are the visitors to Anfield on Saturday, on a run of one win in nine Premier League games.ย  The Clarets have the second-worst defensive record in the division this season and have just two clean sheets from their 23 games.

Diogo Jota looks the safest option from Liverpool’s forward options, having underlined his reputation as a brilliant finisher with four goals and two assists in his last five appearances

The unpredictable Darwin Nunez, who leads the league for xG since the start of December, is a high-risk high-reward alternative and should return after starting on the bench at Arsenal.

Richarlison vs Brighton (H)

Richarlison is in the form of his life right now and extended his recent record to nine goals in eight games against Everton last weekend.

A clinical brace on his return to his former side showed his confidence right now, taking both goals fantastically at Goodison Park. He’s scored in four consecutive games and has blanked just once in FPL in his last eight appearances, averaging almost 9 points per game since GW16.

Spurs host Brighton this weekend, with Ange Postecoglou’s side set to be boosted by the return of Son Heung-min and Yves Bissouma from international commitments. Brighton have conceded more goals (38) than any other team in the top half and have recorded only two clean sheets in 23 games this season.
