Xavi has been named as a potential candidate to replace Erik ten Hag if the Dutchman loses his job at Manchester United.
Ten Hag is under pressure following Manchester United’s worst-ever start to a Premier League campaign, with a goalless draw at Aston Villa on Sunday extending their record to just eight points from seven games.
United have also drawn each of their opening two fixtures in the Europa League and have just three wins from 10 fixtures across all competitions in 2024/25.
Despite insisting that he retains the backing of the board following the draw at Aston Villa, Ten Hag’s position is likely to be reviewed during the international break.
Ineos conducted exploratory talks with potential candidates to replace Ten Hag in the summer after a disappointing Premier League campaign last term.
Xavi a potential option for Manchester United
A stuttering start to the new season could now lead to chance and Spanish outlet El Nacional are reporting that Xavi is an option being considered.
The 44-year-old left Barcelona at the end of last season after two-and-a-half years in charge in Catalonia. The club great led Barcelona to the La Liga title in 2022/23 but moved on after his side finished a distant second behind Real Madrid last time out. Xavi previously won the Qatar Stars League and two Qatar Cups in charge of Al Sadd.
