Evra assesses Manchester United’s three summer signings

Patrice Evra has given his verdict on Manchester United’s three summer signings.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first summer in charge saw the club spend over £140m on new additions, signing Daniel James from Swansea City and defensive duo Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Leicester and Crystal Palace respectively.

Wales international James has made a huge impression since making the step-up from the Championship, scoring three goals in his first five appearances for the club, and former Manchester United defender Evra has been impressed by the 21-year-old’s ‘enthusiasm’ and ‘passion’ for the club.

“What I love with James is his enthusiasm. Yeah, he’s scored some great goals, he’s playing well, he’s fast, but what I want to see right now is the passion and the love for the badge,” Evra told Sky Sports.

“His celebrations shows that. He’s got a role model in Ryan Giggs. Maybe it’s a dream for him to play for Manchester United. That’s what I want when they come to this club.”

The former France international also discussed fellow full-back Wan-Bissaka’s impact since moving to Old Trafford, praising the youngster’s ability in one-vs-one situations, whilst he believes fellow new-boy Maguire will have to be ‘strong mentally’ to cope with becoming the world’s most expensive defender following his world-record £80m move.

“[Wan-Bissaka] wants to go forward, he’s a strong defender. Ferguson always said that if you don’t enjoy one-vs-ones, you shouldn’t play for Manchester United. I can see Wan-Bissaka is ready for that and enjoys the challenge.

“[Maguire] will have to work hard because every mistake he’ll make, people will fire shots at him, so he’ll have to be very strong mentally.”
