Marco Silva revealed that Everton’s Idrissa Gana Gueye was disappointed not to be allowed a move to PSG after the French Champions made a couple of bids for the Senegal international during the January transfer window.
Gueye handed in a transfer request on Wednesday after Everton rejected PSG’s bid for the midfielder to try to push through the move.
Everton didn’t budge though and, for now, Gueye remains a Blue. Silva insists that Gueye enjoys playing for The Toffees and is once again focused on his current team.
“I know Idrissa very well, he is a good professional and a fantastic boy,” Silva said at his pre-match press conference ahead of his sides Premier League fixture against Wolves this weekend.
“He really likes our club, he is enjoying playing in our club. When a club like PSG comes in it is normal he starts to think about his future but now he has stopped, the market is closed and I don’t have doubts we will see the best Idrissa Gana again.”
“You can use the word disappointed and of course it was a good opportunity for him, but it is a fantastic opportunity for him to stay with us also.
Silva also said that he had no warning from the Everton board that the deal was anywhere close to being finalised, suggesting it will take a lot more than the reported bid of £21.5 million to make Everton sell.
“From the feedback I had with the board, they never told me the deal will be done or not, they didn’t tell me it was close, and they never told me we need to prepare to replace Gana.
“I think with this information you can take your conclusion.”
