Premier League club Everton will battle Serie A club Lazio for Middlesbrough midfielder Marten de Roon.

According to Transfer Market Web, the two clubs are eyeing the midfielder who, despite relegation, had an impressive debut campaign in the Premier League.

De Roon moved the Riverside from Serie A club Atalanta last summer for around £12million. Since that move, he made 33 Premier League appearances, scoring four goals.

The Dutchman has also attracted interest from Southampton and Watford, and recently admitted his desire to continue playing at the highest level, putting his Middlesbrough future in doubt.

He told Fox News:

“Of course, you want to play at the highest level, so we’re going to see what the summer brings,

“But for now, I’m still at Middlesbrough and I have a contract. If I play next year, we are going to come back as soon as possible.”

The 26-year-old is hoping to impress Netherlands boss Dick Advocaat in the upcoming friendless against Morocco and Ivory Coast, with a view to making next summer’s World Cup squad, if they can indeed qualify.
