Evan Ferguson commits future to Brighton until 2029

Evan Ferguson has committed to a new long-term contract with Brighton, which is set to run until June 2029.

The forward has been one of the most in-demand players in world football since bursting onto the scene last season, but has chosen to pledge his future to the Seagulls.

He scored his first Premier League goal against Arsenal in December 2022 and has 15 senior goals for Albion. Ferguson has scored five league goals in ten appearances this season, including a hat-trick in Brighton’s win over Newcastle in September.

Ferguson joined the club from Irish club Bohemians in 2021 and established himself at academy level, before making his debut later that year against Cardiff City in the Carabao Cup.

“Evan deserves this new contract and he has a very big future ahead of him,” said Brighton head coach Roberto De Zerbi.

The club’s technical director David Weir commented further: “Evan is a brilliant young talent and we are delighted for him.

“He’s shown his ability at club and international level, after breaking into the team at the start of the year, and we are looking forward to working with him and watching his continued progress.”

Ferguson has also started strongly with national team Ireland, scoring three times in eight international appearances for his country.

The 19-year-old has also became the first player since Wayne Rooney to score 10 Premier League goals in a calendar year as a teenager, and will be looking to replicate the former Manchester United striker’s legacy in the game.

Ferguson will be aiming to celebrate his new deal with a goal against Sheffield United on Sunday.
