Euro 2016: Day Seven Round-Up

After host nation France became the first team to qualify for the knockout phases of the competition on Wednesday, attention turned to Groups B and C where two local derbies and three of the home nations played their second round of fixtures.

England 2-1 Wales, Group B

After England conceded a last minute equaliser against Russia on Matchday one, they finally took revenge against local rivals Wales by striking a last minute winner. Real !adrid man Gareth Bale opened the scoring with a long range free-kick that Joe Hart should have saved, before second half substitutes Jamie Vardy and Daniel Sturridge scored to take the English  top of Group B.

Ukraine 0-2 Northern Ireland, Group C

After a disappointing defeat in Matchday one, Northern Ireland got their first points of the tournament with an efficient 2-0 victory against Ukraine. Gareth McAuley opened the scoring after half time, before Niall McGinns 96th minute goal secured the points for the Green and White army, leaving them in third place in Group C. Ukraine are still without a point and prop up the Group.

Germany 0-0 Poland, Group C

The local rivals of Germany and Poland played out first goalless draw of the tournament, leaving the teams in first and second in Group C, after both picking up four points from their opening two game.
