The round of the last-16 is over. Just eight teams remain as Europe’s finest prepare for the quarter finals, whilst two more teams head home.
Italy 2-0 Spain
Euro 2016 will not be retained by the holders as Spain crashed out at the hands of Italy. Giorgio Chiellini opened the scoring before Graziano Pelle’s late strike sealed their place in the quarter finals.
England 1-2 Iceland
England crashed out of Euro 2016 to minnows Iceland. Wayne Rooneys early penalty should have settled early nerves, but goals from Ragnar Sigurdsson and Kolbeinn Sigthorsson crushed English dreams and extended the hurt to beyond 50 years.
After the match, Roy Hodgson resigned his position as England manager.
