England take on Japan at Wembley on Tuesday in a good test for Thomas Tuchel’s side as they continue preparing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Three Lions are unbeaten in their last seven games in all competitions and have suffered only one defeat since October 2024 across 14 matches.
Thomas Tuchel’s team were excellent in World Cup qualifying, winning all eight games without conceding a goal, but their record in friendlies has been less convincing, with just two wins from their last seven non-competitive fixtures, including the recent 1-1 draw with Uruguay.

England will be missing at least eight players when they meet Japan on Tuesday, forcing Thomas Tuchel to reshuffle his plans for the Wembley friendly.
Noni Madueke was hurt in the draw with Uruguay, while John Stones also picked up an issue before that match, and both Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka have since gone back to Arsenal for medical checks.
Fikayo Tomori, Aaron Ramsdale and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have also returned to their clubs, but Tuchel still has 27 players available as he prepares his side to face Japan.
That still leaves him with plenty of quality to work with, and the return of players such as Harry Kane, Morgan Rogers, Anthony Gordon, Marc Guéhi and Elliot Anderson should bring England closer to the kind of lineup Tuchel wants to build for the World Cup.
