Chelsea will hold an end-of-season review of the club’s campaign before a decision is made on the future of Mauricio Pochettino.
Pochettino was appointed as Chelsea’s head coach on a two-year deal last summer and has endured an up-and-down debut campaign in charge at Stamford Bridge.
Despite the record-breaking spending of the Blues, Chelsea have been unable to compete at the top end of the Premier League table and an inexperienced squad have struggled for consistency in their results and performances.
Chelsea are seventh in the Premier League and targeting European qualification ahead of remaining fixtures against Nottingham Forest, Brighton and Bournemouth. Pochettino’s side have shown improvement of late, beating Tottenham and West Ham in emphatic fashion, and have lost just one of their last 12 league games.
According to The Telegraph, Pochettino will sit down with the Chelsea board after the final weekend to assess the club’s progress.
The end-of-season review is set to include Pochettino, sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, and members of the ownership team including Behdad Eghbali, Todd Boehly and Jose E Feliciano.
Boehly, who has been the face of the takeover from Clearlake Capital, this week praised the recent upturn in performances.
“We’ve seen the last two and a half games…in the second half at Aston Villa [2-2 draw] and Tottenham [2-0 win] and West Ham [5-0 win] where we played beautiful football,” Boehly said at a Sportico conference on Wednesday.
“It was so fluid, it was exactly the way we drew it up, when we came out of the back, built up and moved up the pitch, [it was] very organised and the number of shots we had. In those two-and-a-half games, you could really start to see what we were working on coming together.”
