Emery admits he’s trying to improve Arsenal’s poor record against the top six

Unai Emery has had a great start to his Arsenal career thus far.

The former PSG manager still has one big task facing the Gunners: their record against the big six in the Premier League.

In recent years, Arsene Wenger’s charges were infamous for their poor record against the other big clubs in the league, something Emery wants to change under his stewardship.

“I want to make a team that knows how to play with spaces, to be able to counter-attack, or without space, look for how to generate it,’’ Emery told Marca.

“We are trying to create an idea, a style, be competitive.”

Emery acknowledged that having attained just one point from three games against the ‘top six’ this season, he has yet to improve his team’s fortunes in the really important games.

“We are coming from an Arsenal that did not win against the top six. Although this year we have not done it yet either, it was also difficult for us to win away from home and we have already improved there.”

Arsenal started the season with fixtures against Manchester City and Chelsea, losing both of them before drawing 1-1 at home to Liverpool, a game which ended their fantastic 11-game winning run.
