Unai Emery praised Cardiff City’s performance as Arsenal struggled to get over the line in their 2-1 victory over the Welsh side.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette got the goals as Arsenal kept up the heat on Chelsea in the race for Champions League qualification.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing pulled one back for the Bluebirds in injury time, but the Gunners held on for the precious three points.

The Spaniard admitted his charges “struggled” in the match, but were “happy” with the end result:

“We are happy. In the first half we didn’t deserve to go in winning and in the second half we played better, controlled the match better and created more chances.’’ Emery told BBC’s MOTD.

“We started well in the first 10 minutes then I was not surprised with the performance as Cardiff worked very well.

“We struggled a lot in the match but it’s very important to get the three points. We know each match is difficult and we are happy – the difference is small details.”
