Eddie Howe not interested in becoming England manager

Eddie Howe is not interested in replacing Gareth Southgate as England manager, should the latter leave his role after next summer’s European Championship.

Next summer’s tournament will mark almost eight years since Southgate was appointed England manager and the 53-year-old is expected to step down from the position after Euro 2024, having considered leaving after the Three Lions’ exit at the 2022 World Cup.

Howe has been named as a potential successor to Southgate after an excellent period at Newcastle, who he has led to Champions League qualification for the first time in two decades.

However, the Telegraph are reporting that Howe will turn down any approaches from the FA, with the 45-year-old not interested in international management at this stage of his career.

Former Brighton and Chelsea boss Graham Potter and Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper are also thought to be under consideration, should the FA decide on an English successor.

Cooper previously managed England at youth level and led the u-17 side to World Cup success in 2017, a side which contained current senior players Phil Foden, Conor Gallagher and Marc Guehi.
