Dortmund defender keen on Manchester United move

Borussia Dortmund centre-half Manuel Akanji has said that ‘it would be nice’ to play for Manchester United, the team he supported as a child.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is known to be desperate to sign a central defender in January, having missed out on the likes of Harry Maguire, Toby Alderweireld, Jerome Boateng and Diego Godin in the summer.

With United’s transfer woes laid out for all to see, one man who has said he would relish a move to Old Trafford is Swiss international defender Manuel Akanji, although the Borussia Dortmund defender has accepted that a move is not likely in the short term.

“Many know that Manchester United has been my favourite club since childhood,” the 23-year-old said at a press conference on Thursday.

“It would be nice to play there, but that’s not an issue right now.

“I am very satisfied in Dortmund, I want to win titles with BVB and compete in many more big tournaments with the Swiss national teams.”

Akanji only arrived at the Bundesliga club back in January, making an £18 million move from Basel.
