West Ham United have confirmed the £22 million signing of 21-year-old French centre-back Issa Diop from Ligue 1 side Toulouse today.
The Hammers have beaten off competition from Everton and Sevilla for the highly rated defender, with the East London outfit confirming that he has signed a five-year-deal.
Diop has represented France from U16 up to U21 level and despite his tender age has already made over 100 career appearances.
He becomes West Ham’s second summer signing after the club announced the signing of right-back Ryan Fredericks from Fulham last week.
It seems new Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini is intent on tightening things up at the back, as West Ham had the worst defensive record in the Premier League last season.
